The SEN Teacher Training Department is committed to equipping educators with the specialized knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to support learners with special educational needs (SEN). Through comprehensive training programs, workshops, and certifications, the department prepares teachers to create inclusive, adaptive, and empowering learning environments. Educators are trained in best practices for differentiated instruction, behavioral support, classroom management, and individualized education planning, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive. The department emphasizes hands-on learning, reflective practice, and collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams. By fostering a deep understanding of diverse learning profiles, the SEN Teacher Training Department builds a community of professionals who are not only skilled but also compassionate advocates for their students. Aligned with CESC’s mission, the department ensures that every educator is prepared to unlock potential, inspire growth, and champion success for learners of all abilities.

Department Chair

Dr. Charles Barrett, MEd, PhD

Dr. Charles Barrett is a nationally certified school psychologist, educator, author, and musician dedicated to advancing justice, equity, and holistic education. He holds a PhD in School Psychology and an MEd in Human Development from Lehigh University, along with a BA in Psychology and English from St. John’s University. With over 13 years of school-based practice and leadership roles in the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), Dr. Barrett has championed systemic change for marginalized students.

He is the author of several influential books, including It’s Always About the Children and Social Justice in Schools: A Framework for Equity in Education, and leads CAB Publishing Company, producing literary and music projects that inspire and educate. A lifelong musician and creative leader, Dr. Barrett blends artistry and scholarship in his work. As head of the SEN Teacher Training Department at CESC, he is committed to equipping educators to foster inclusive, transformative learning environments.
