Department Chair
Professor Kirk Maynard, BSc, MFA
Kirk Maynard is a distinguished artist and educator whose work explores the intersections of culture, identity, and politics in America. A second-generation Guyanese-American originally from Brooklyn, New York, Maynard uses portraiture and composition to illuminate the political undercurrents of social history and contemporary life. His distinctive use of the profile and layered visual narratives creates powerful reflections on personal and collective identity.
Maynard has shared his insights through artist talks at the New Museum, Queens College, and Princeton University, and his work has been exhibited at esteemed institutions such as The Newark Museum of Art, Reece Museum, and Everhart Museum.
As the leader of the SEN Fine Arts Center at CESC, Maynard brings a deep commitment to fostering creative expression as a vital tool for education, empowerment, and social change.
