This course equips participants with effective, research-based strategies for teaching writing to
students with special educational needs. Participants will explore the cognitive, linguistic, and motor challenges that impact writing development, including difficulties with handwriting, spelling grammar, organization, and written expression.

Emphasis will be placed on individualized and differentiated instruction, assistive technology and multi-sensory approaches to support the writing process, from prewriting and drafting to revising and publishing.

Participants will learn to design inclusive writing lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners and align with curriculum standards and IEP goals. Participants will also have an understanding of Dysgrafia and related disorders.

 

Course Lenght: 4 weeks

 

Please note:

 

  • The course comprises lectures, home assignments, mid term and end of semester assignments.
  • Students earn 2 credits for SPED 302. spend 6 hours each week on this course in a mixture of faculty led teaching learning (1 hour) and student- directed learning (2 hours) on review or recommended readings and home assignments.
