This foundational course in special education psychology and advocacy provides a panoramic introduction to special education. It provides a general overview of special education psychology, global and national history and policies, and advocacy. The course is intended to provide newcomers to special education with a strong baseline of information that enables the student to engage more fully in various dimensions and levels of special education, and to build on the knowledge base in terms of own knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
Please note:
- This course comprises lectures, home assignments and mid and end-semester assessments.
- It is offered during a 15-week semester, with 7 weeks of instruction, 1 week of recess/review, and 1 week of assessment and examination.
- Students who earn 2 credits for SPED 101 spend at least 3.5 hours each week on this course, in a mixture of faculty-led teaching-learning and student-directed learning, including review of lectures or classwork, group work, required or recommended readings and home assignments.
